My Top 3 Books on Marriage
Marriage is a relationship that requires consistent effort. Longevity is often created by a willingness to adapt and grow over and over throughout the entirety of the relationship. Here are some of my favorite books on marriage:
Number 3: Marriage by Paul David Tripp.
A few years ago, I was able to hear Paul Tripp teach the principles of this book live at his marriage conference. It was incredibly helpful to marry the theological and the practical. His infusion of his own experiences, as well as, truth from the Bible make this book a great place for couples to start working together on their relationship.
Number 2: Fight Right by John and Julie Gottman.
The Gottman’s are renown all over the world for their empirical research into love and relationships. This book is a great resource for any couple who feel like their conflict is creating unhealthy patterns within their relationship. This book clearly explains how different personality types respond to conflict and the meta-emotional patterns that couples can feel trapped in. It also gives clear action steps for couples to take to improve their conflict with one another that builds intimacy and connection.
Number 1: This Momentary Marriage by John and Noelle Piper.
This is one of the most transformational books that I think has ever been written on the topic of marriage. John and Noelle wrote this book after forty years of marriage, and their love and commitment to one another shines through the whole book. This book lays out the foundational purpose of Christian marriage, how to move through seasons of difficulty and joy, and how the gospel is the centerpiece of marriage. I recommend to all the couples that work with in marriage counseling.
As always, I am here to serve the marriages and families within our community. Reach out and let me know what topics you would love to see covered on the blog.
